I don't know if you remember some of the events of 2007, but we've had these same questions raised regarding Cinemaware products.
Quote:
A bit odd that they dont even mention Cinemaware on the games product page, wonder if they know about Amiga selling their games. |

There were pages and pages about this on amiga.org at the same time.
Keep in mind that this, as well as the other events like suddenly wanting to honor coupons was in tandem with trying to show the court they were a "business".

the story has been picked up by crackberry.com as well. a few punters have purchased the games and suggest they play fairly well.
as for the team 17 games they had already been released in the public domain sometime ago, although i do not know under what license. according the supreme font of wisdom and knowledge, wikipedia:
Quote:
In February 2004, a small group of fans launched a Team17 fansite called Dream17. The company gave Dream17 permission to make their entire Amiga back-catalog of games available as free downloads in both ADF and IPF disk image formats. |

No, they haven't. Granting a license to a website (i.e. Dream17) to host your games does not equal making them "freeware" or "public domain". It just means that this particular website can distribute your games - everybody else still has to get his own license, if he wants to distribute them.

Where did you get that? All I see on crackberry.com is people listing games they'd like to play.Last edited by cgutjahr on 20-Sep-2012 at 02:28 PM.

I'm sure the lawfirm of Reed Smith signs off on these strategic moves.
I assume since you used the term "charlatan", you were referring to the lawyers. Heh.

I too posses a Blackberry Playbook but since these ganes don't run from an actual emulator I doubt if I will buy them. It's like buying a new Amiga 500 for every game you want to play. Doesn't make much sense.

Well, Im not sure how much they have simply ignorance towards games and how much is illwillingness if any, but I do remember at one point long ago, maybe it was about 2000 they were giving list of games that were in development for new Amigas, and it included games such as "Super Mario 64", which obviously referred to Tales From Heaven: http://hol.abime.net/1309 which was described as Super Mario 64 kind of game.
And there were loads of games on that list that never came out, either they just wanted the list to look big and good, or then they simply didnt bother to check things at all to know that some (most) of them would never be coming out for basis on getting that list were very light. Seemed to me that as long as you had told somewhere that you were going to be making this WOW beater, WOW beater got listed on that list. |

| Well if you go to team17 web site they have just relaunched the classic alien breed for the ipad and iPhone, no mention of blackberry support.
I hope they have got permission to release them other wise this a bit of a daft move by Amiga inc. I really like the look of the playbook, if they had been a bit more successful I might of got one and a large size version, that reminds me it running qnx OS isent it, maybe qnx had a small role to play in getting these over as they where quite fond of the Amiga platform. _________________ AmigaNG, YouTube, LeaveReality Studio |

| Interesting...
I also read somewhere that CInemaware games were being ported to the Blackberry (assume emulated versions), but no idea if that is still planned. With Cinemaware now porting their own games to iOS, I'd think it unlikely.
And it wouldn't surprise me in the least if Amiga Inc didn't secure any rights at all. Some companies strangely assume if a game is released as free upon the publisher's site, they can then sell it commercially. I had a company do that to me ages ago ... I randomly ran across a small game I had written and released for free, now being sold as a budget commercial game online, through some Australian company. When confronted, they stated that an employee mistakenly downloaded it and just assumed they could then sell it. Of course they just expected that I'd never notice.
And the Playbook is sort of cool, although I wouldn't really recommend anyone buying it today. There is a good chance RIM won't even exist a year or two from now. There aren't that many apps for it, especially when compared to iOS and Android. But if they ever do another developer promotion again, I suggest anyone here with any programming knowledge at all, give it a shot. I got mine for free for some little calculator app thingy which didn't even work so great. Never know... they may do it again as a last gasp. Last edited by Nameless on 21-Sep-2012 at 12:41 AM.

We look forward to continued cooperation with Amiga to see more of our classic titles revived for fans old and new." |

Either that link was added or I missed it when the pic first appeared. It seems all involved parties are pleased with the arrangement.

Old Amiga games for new tablets/smartphones? With proper licence from rights owners? Step in the right direction! Hopefuly Amiga.Inc will not make same "mistakes" as it was common case in last decade. |

Nope you didn't miss the link it wasn't there at the start...
Seems they only put that bit in after some people I had been talking to had emailed A.inc about this (they never got a reply) but I am told that part only appeared a couple of days after the emails had been sent...
While Debbie Bestwick (owner of Team 17) seems to have given permission for A.inc to use certain titles, wonder why they haven't said anything about the Bitmap Brother games being used !!!
From the following comment in that link...
"Calling all classic Amiga game developers and publishers... If you hold the publishing rights to a commercial Amiga game or application, or know somebody that does, then we are seeking to get in touch with you."
Then I wonder if they are just selling the Bitmap Brother titles and hoping whomever owns the copyrights will get in touch and give them permission ???
One things for sure, it seems like Amiga.inc are out to make a few more bucks from old dead Amiga stuff, which kinda shows they haven't lost their ability to scrape every last drop out of the barrel by not actually creating anything themselves and just using other peoples work to make a few bucks to pay the lawyers... _________________

http://www.amiga.com/news/2012-amiga-blackberry.php Amiga can bring Classic applications written for the Amiga platform to life on Blackberry devices that don't have the same user controls on the platform. Amiga Anywhere2's Virtual Classic Controls fill the gaps on Blackberry devices and allow users to control games similar to the way they were controlled on Amiga computers.
Anywhere2 soo the thing is back...
