Epistula Instant Messenger - Release v52.13

Quick bug fix update, mainly to fix the bugs people submitted after the last update, so if you didn't submit anything, don't expect it to be fixed here.

Thanks to everyone who is submitting and updating bugs, I appreciate it.

Read more...

Regarding the bug tracker website, I've taken heed of the requests for a simplified login system which I've now implemented. Simply log in the 'long way' and choose a password to allow a quick log in for the next time you visit.

Please, when submitting bugs, always use the '.debug' version of the Epistula executable as it will make my life a lot easier when searching for bugs.

Also, to the ~200 people who have downloaded the public keyfile, could the 198 people who haven't donated to the project please consider doing so, you know it makes sense

It is also worth mentioning that I've not included the NBitmap MCC in this archive as it is now officially compiled with the rest of the NList classes, and that I have included the updated catalog descriptor file for people wishing to translate Epistula to their chosen language.

As usual, it can be downloaded here.

Connection Details
Server: messenger.hotmail.com
Port: 1863

Installation
It is recommended that you backup your epistula.xml and msn.xml files and perform a full re-install of the package using the included installer.

Regards
Daniel Allsopp

Hi,

is TOC plugin (support) dropped? Ok, never worked here, but I was hoping to find a working version with time. :)
As Amiga user I just don't feel comfortable with a MS-Chat... :)

CU,
Mario

Good news, everyone who uses OS4 and MSN Messenger should be supporting this project! It's one of the much needed core apps we need for OS4 (in my opinion)

I would be more interested too, if there was TOC/ICQ support...

Unbelieveable! Only 2 people out of 200 thought your talents were worthy of a donation? I am sure there are a lot more than 2 people using your program as it is. This is very shameful.

Now, as for me, I may not have donated, I don't remember. Although, I've never gotten Epistula to run. It always Grim Reapers on startup. Don't take this as a bug report though, I am sure the bug lies with me. My plate has been really full this year with other priorities. As soon as I have enough time to get it to run and discover it's pleasantries a donation will be on it's way.

I'd agree with you, but then we'd both be wrong.

OK, just got in from the pub after posting the news update. Here are a few answers to the comments so far

@padrino & Timo
No no no no, TOC is not dropped. The TOC plugin is sitting here waiting to be recompiled for this version of Epistula. I really wanted to get it stable enough with MSN before I compiled TOC so I was waiting. However, it seems that this version is working better for everyone all round so I will compile and fix the TOC plugin tomorrow.

I will either release it tomorrow night before I go out, or on Saturday afternoon after I get over my hangover.

@Robert17 & Troels

Thank you for your support, believe me when I say that it is most appreciated. It's down to people like yourselves, and the other donators, that I get continued motivation to keep going with this project.

I ain't joking, it does make a difference

@jahc

Hmm, well although Epistula itself supports file transfer functionality. the MSN plugin support for file transfer doesn't work yet as I've got to do that with beta testers. The foundations in the MSN plugin have been layed but it won't work just yet.

Now that I know this is stable though, I will continue to implement the missing features in the plugins.

You see, with this in mind, I might well release the plugin source code to MSN and TOC just to allow others to help me with the various aspects of the different plugins.

I've got a LOT of time on my hands at the moment so I'd like to see this problem progress quite quickly.

@all

Thanks again! It's very appreciated!

EDIT:

Oops, forgot Moxee Sorry mate.

@Moxee

Yes, well it's to be expected. Maybe they didn't use Epistula and were just curious or they fancied checking out the free keyfile or whatever, I don't feel angry about it, it's their own perogative in the end.

Maybe when I get the TOC plugin released then it may be a different story as I've had a lot of interest in TOC/AIM and people wondering why that plugin has been forgotten/removed etc.

Let's see in a week

Jeez, tell me about it. I've had about 600 os3/os4/aros/mos users combined download the last wookiechat from aminet, but I dont see 600 users in the amiga channels I visit. :) I'm guessing a lot of users download everything, and dont neccesarily try it out, and theres guys that just wanna give it a quick spin to see what it does... I estimate my real userbase at about 20 users.

Sad to read about the lack of donations... i actually have an quite long list of programs i plan to support buying/registering/donating to, and Epistula is among them... the problem is that i still don't have an OS4 machine...

I believe, and I might be wrong in this, that you have to register (Donate) to get your log on information set up.

BAD: That your hangover takes so long...
GOOD: That you seem to have such a great weekend that got you that hangover...

If people dont know the server to TOC here it is.
aimexpress.oscar.aol.com and the port is correct at 5190.

Thanks Slash

EDIT: Tested and the TOC shows my ICQ friends as UIN numbers.

When i try to disconnect MSN or TOC plugin the gui says disconnecting and then freezes. Do others get this ? Im curious as Slash doesnt get this and i dont see anyone complaining ;) I put a bug on bugtracker.
