It make my collection of over 70 Boxed original + another 20 unboxed original Amiga games look a bit insignificant then you look at the list of games they have already preserved. But on the positive side at leased I can see there are still plenty more good classic Amiga games I can collect in the future.

I can also see the point in making images of the original copy protected disks as more a number of mine have died over the years and it won’t always be possible to replace them as most Amiga floppies are already older than their expected life span of about 10 years.

I hope at some stage they will extend the project to also using hardware such as the PCI Catweasel mk4 card to write the images back to floppy to allow then to still be used on classic hardware.

I don't realy get the whole SPS thing.

If no one gets to use or see the collection why even bother making it ?

I got the whole collection of picassos all paintings but no one can see them ever again. I'm just preserving them for the future ?
Or is the plan to release all the info in 2000+ years or what ?

The idea is to keep preservation & distribution as separate, so that people/companies worried about copyright issues can still help preserve Amiga/etc games before they are lost forever. I believe that eventually they will look at obtaining permission, but they apparently have enough work just preserving games. I'm sure they'd be happy for someone to help obtain permission for certain images to be publically distributed

see Hol.abime.net for more info, very nice site when it comes to AMIGA games stuff and info.

The idea is to preserve the games so that when the copyright does eventually expire, there WILL BE games to be preserved (then in the public domain).

We do indeed intend to seek permissions, but that is a huge job as I am sure people from (now ex?)BTTR can tell you. We are a technical project and do not have the resources to do this as well as preserve the games, so we preserve them first, so when the permission is obtained, there are the games available.

Besides, people who submit the games get them, it is not our business what happens to them after that. We just make sure they are preserved (in enterprise-grade backup facilities) properly.

I might be able to provide images of Summer Games 1 & 2 and Winter Games soon (if they aren't dumped already, but i couldn't find them in the CAPS database.)

Something I'm not clear on is whether they want to be sent images of games they already have. So I haven't done anything yet, since I don't think I've got any games they haven't. Would be nice if they do, as then I could get CAPS images of games I own.
