> We had to step in on more than one occasion to keep it afloat.

Thank you! Thank you for constantly stepping in, thank you for spending so much energy into a unsustainable project, thank you for backing Amiga Inc., thank you for creating an alternative to enrich the Amiga market.

> Please make no mistake, without Eyetech putting its money on the line there would not just have been no AmigaOne, there would have been no OS4 either.

You made no mistake but your customers. You did so much good to the community that it hurts.

It seems there were plans to finance the boards and new-found segment coined "Amiga Enthuasist" by industrial and/or embedded markets.

Why haven't there been any success in this area, any particular wrong-doings? Bad luck? Lack of resources?

Edit:

Yes thanks for the honest answers, it's very well appreciated and have been sought-for by Amigans ;)

Well that made nice, honest reading. Every point raised I totally understand and agree with.

Hopefully a few people will sit and be quiet for a while now, though I expect to be reading the usual scare mongering for a couple of days yet...

As ever Alan, if theres anything I can do in the way of support you know how to contact me

Many thanks to Alan for answering these questions.

In some parts it does make slightly depressing reading, but deep down it's stuff we knew but maybe didn't always want to accept (i.e. that until we have big external interest in Amiga hardware, the market has reached its limit). Also, parts of the community is its own worst enemy: how can other people be interested in our tech if we're grumbling and flaming each other over it - we're supposed to be the ones evangelising Amigas

Anyway, I'm off to buy a 3 USB hub for my XE...

Maybe i am the only one, but i don't see any good news.

Find an investor! I want them :-/

@ikir:

You dont?

how about this:

Quote:
Both the A1-I and A1-XC have been designed and the A1-I has been prototyped. The final specification for both boards (and other designs/variations) will inevitably be modified before they go into production, if and when this happens. Boards will only go into production when we have volume orders for them from industry.

I'll stay off this thread, as it concerns people who bought the hardware much more than myself. I only have to say two things:
1) At last, it's a honest statement of the current situation.
2) It sadly confirmed most concerns of users, :-/.

3) (Ok, I said two, but this is comical) Grep "Amiga Enthusiast".

@Alan
You must do some marketing, find some new partners, sell a new and perfeclty working linux compatible machine.

@Oppressor

Have you asked Microsoft contractors to join a Linux effort too?

@MetalJoe

Oh, but the problem is that people can't get A1 hardware now, several are having problems.

In addition, given OS4 is getting more and more mature, there is unfortunately no place I can send ex-amigans and friends that are impressed with the new OS and are interested to fork out a moderate sum to be on the Amiga bandwagon again.

Another oxymoron is that it seems Eyetech has exclusive right for making hardware for AmgaOS 4 but still they say that new hardware designs is up to others?

Edit: typo.

Good to have all of that cleared up. Thanks Alan.

No new board designs will be made

I don't want to be negative - but it looks bad doesn't it?

With AInc. uninterested and Eyetech banking on some one in a million shot at a big AOne hardware deal I am less than optimistic about the future of the Amiga as anything other than a novelty. A great shame as OS4 looked really good too.

Quote:
I have to say that the negative comments about the boards (and Eyetech) posted on AW and elsewhere do not help instil confidence in potential commercial purchasers, even though those comments do not directly relate to the specifications required by those potential customers. In other words the more vociferous the criticism the less likely you are to see new products.

This is a bit unfair. The answers provided today should have been provided much earlier and perhaps many of the PR mistakes made could have well been avoided.

@MikeyC

Thanks for sticking with this and finally getting these answers. Well done!

AFAIK (very little I admit), no industry orders have materialized so far hence A1-I and A1-XC are kept in the drawer... getting obsolete. I guess nobody here can do any better than this , but that's a pity nevertheless

Don't count me among those customers, thanks, I'm satisfied of my AmigaOne.

Should AmigaOS 4 fail, I might do that. Until then, I prefer to work on our "alternative".

The 'only' thing you have to do is.... Get Amiga Inc to give you a license

Cheers,
