Hardware News   Hardware News : MicroA1-EZ on show at Club AMF
posted by xray on 22-Mar-2004 21:23:26 (3343 reads)
A sensational innovation revealed by Club AMF (* - details) on Saturday April 3... a new Amiga! For the first time in Switzerland, RELEC will show a new model of AmigaOne, the "MicroA1" PowerPC from Eyetech.

The MicroA1 is complete computer on a card of 170mm X 170mm, intended mainly for the industrial applications.

RELEC has integrated it in a compact case, which transforms it into really sensational micro-computer,the "MicroA1-EZ". This machine is designed to function with LinuxPPC and AmigaOS 4.0 operating systems.

In addition, the "Prerelease" of AmigaOS 4.0 and one AmigaOne G4-XE running Linux will be probably shown at this event.

Hi there everyone,

What the heck is THIS all about? What's so special about this? (Not flame, just curious). If it's aimed at the industrial market, does that mean KMOS (Or whoever) could have a CHEAP Amiga system built again, like the old A1200 or similar?

This is just EyeTech's Pre-production MicroATX AmigaOne board installed in a case.

MicroA1/A1lite/whatever put into a nice (?) looking case. Nothing more I think.

Yes, thats exactly what they (Eyetech) are trying to do with the microA1. Although they should really rename it to MiniA1 or something, its really confusing customers to have a mini-itx board named "micro.." imho.

Well if they can release an Amiga-Like system (Like the A1200 or even A4000 ) i'll be one of the first in line to buy one.

I would be interested in one, given that the price was reasonable. I don't have any reason to expect the price will be reasonable, but I hope I'm pleasantly surprised.

Your design looks a little oversized for the micro A1...

Yup, "just" the mini-ITX mobo installed in a case.

And I'm "just" using mine to post this from. Nice little board, definitely worth thinking about if you want something that doesn't take up half the room :)

Oh, and I persist in maintaining that the G3 is a better bet than the G4. Macs only "need" G4s because the OS uses up a lot of cycles with its bells and whistles. We'll have a real OS to show off.
