@Hypex

AmiBench opens and uses the functions in ARM Graphics Lib directly.

We are next going to patch the graphics library to divert calls for DrawLine, Blitting etc to use the ARM Graphics Lib.

Finally our new Datatypes system will call the ARM Graphics Lib directly

We will in future look at MPEG decoding and other high CPU tasks that can benefit from the power of native ARM code.

@amigakit

So something like the pre CGX/P96 RTG solutions that were specific to 1 GFX card?

@Kronos

Not really.

We are using a Cybergfx/P96 compatible RTG system already.

This is used for accelerating Blits, Alphablending and screen drawing using native ARM code. The API is still Cybergfx/P96 compatible.

Taking away 68K code and replacing it with ARM native equivalent accelerates graphics performance. The graphics API doesn’t change as far as 68K applications that use it are concerned.

@OlafS25

For some years we have been working on our own SystemV46 which is the same code base as the equivalent components found in the Enhancer Software. It is OS3 compatible.

See Wiki here for more information:

@amigakit

I understood that you replaced parts of the OS. But you need roms for it to work, either Kickstart 3.1 or Aros Rom Replacements. I wondered which route you go

@OlafS25

We are using AROS ROMs at the moment. but you can theoretically swap them out for 3.0 ROMs and it still works.

@amigakit

If you have time, could you make a video showing side by side the performance with and without the ARM Graphics Library?

Development of AmiBench for the A600GS continues.

The new Clock utility added this week with a wide range of skins/themes and sizes which can be selected

That's very nice, but will the device keep time between sessions?

Development work on the public release of AmiBench V46.1 is coming to a conclusion in time for the soon to be released A600GS computer. The latest program to be backported from the Enhancer Software to the A600GS is the Calendar app. The Calendar is fully skinnable with 20 themes provided.

For the programmers out there, It uses the Shared Image Class, now accelerated by the ARM Graphics Library

@amigakit

It would be nice if the composition engine of AmigaOS 4.1 could be somehow integrated into AmiBench

@pixie

I guess that’s kind what it is, but it’s annoying that you need rewrite all the code, to use this new ARM library.

@NutsAboutAmiga

In AmigaOS 4 it would be achieved not by PPC but rather by the GFX board wouldn't that be the case? I guess here arm is needed to access the GFX board directly, could it be?

Sure it will, the host OS is online and use ntp, they might even throw in an RTC, they cost less than 2 ÂŁ.
