@Xmas87

I'm an X1000 owner. I'm not sure how I'm being "mugged". Could you explain?

Me too. I happily use my X1000 every day at work and I can't say I've ever felt mugged at all.

@ssolie

Yeah the fading I am referring to is whenever the user or otherwise changes the workbench backdrop image a cross fade between the two is evident. Like on Mac when you say change the desktop image every 30 mins a nice smooth transition is seen.
I've tried Wally (under QT) and it simply switches out one image with another (and not even nicely I might add).

What do you mean by a good way to deliver video?

If you recall, some X1000 customers here were asking for a feature like overlay and we noticed this request. Of course overlay is not used on later RadeonHD technology. So I approached Hans de Ruiter for a solution and he suggested the composited accelerated video support. A-EON obtained a quote from him and started a new driver development. Hans was very efficient in his work as usual and produced the new version 2 of the RadeonHD driver, which has had some beta test sub-releases to the v2.4 which we now have. We also commissioned him to work on the DMA engine of the graphics support and when the two are coupled together, video playback in 1080p is the result

In regard to the HD Graphics Driver, I assume this would now mean proper dedicated video acreen capturing will be entirely possible? Given someone writes the software of course.

We really really need this for many reasons, promotional videos, used generated content for e.g. YouTube, video tutorials, live streams, share screens apps etc etc etc

Really, if it is not Hyperions then who owns it? I understand that Thomas Frieden received the task of porting it but it was then taken on board by you and your team does that mean you own it?

Thomas and Hans-Joerg Frieden do. See http://friedenhq.org/?page_id=74

Composited video. See A-EON press releases regarding RadeonHD driver 2.x.

Would further funding speed up the process of bringing Timberwolf up to date and ready for release?

Not at this moment. What I need to do is put together a team to work on it and I just haven't done that yet. My real life paying job has priority in these cases...

One can hope it sells out quickly because that will surely drive things forward much faster. In any case, they can always make more. I'm not in charge of the Final Edition project so I'm not sure how they came up with their estimates.

Will there be examples or best practices tutorials for the new / changed libraries in the sdk?

Everything will either be in the SDK or on the AmigaOS Documentation Wiki or both.

I doubt it is that easy. What we need is access to the video card's hardware codec and nobody is working on such a project as far as I know. Third party developers could make a bit of money providing such a feature.

I do remember Hans talking about GART or something related to video capture on Amigans perhaps he can shed some light on it - although to be honest I don't think he posts on AmigaWorld.

GART does not fix the problem either. All these things together make it a little better each time. You need access to hardware codec(s) to make the next stage of the magic happen.

This is not so simply as I think ssolie has already said.

There is an improvement though, with my current (slightly customised) build of SRec I can record 3 frames per sec at 1080p on my X1000, whnere I could barely get 1 frame per sec at 1280x1024 on my SAM when I started making videos.

If you want full speed video I'd recomend an external recording device, I bought one on ebay for less that £50.00 , It's attached to the HDMI out and the main DVI out goes to the monitor. It grabs full HD at 30fps but gets messed up by resolution changes. You get the full expereinec though, screen dragging, chnage of nmouse pointers etc etc, which you don't see with an SRec recorded video.

I'll be making some demos soon to upload. Time is always an issue.

The video of mplayer playing an HD I played (with mplayer) as the start of the radiance demo was recorded with it.

The biggest advatage of this approahc is that you see the X1000 at full speed with no slow down due to encoding or graphics band width.

Development of a Warp3D driver for Radeon HD 5xxx/6xxx cards was announced a while back. It's been so long, that some people thought that it had silently been cancelled.
However, Trevor said at AmiWest that it's still being worked on, but various problems (incl. developer health and at least one major roadblock) have delayed it. Progress is being made.

Gallium3D is the new driver system for mesa. One of its goals is to make it easier to write platform independent 3D drivers. Mesa is an open-source implementation of the OpenGL specification. It currently implements everything up to OpenGL 3.1.

Warp3D is the current 3D system. It's already supported on old Radeon cards (up to Radeon 9250) and various other old cards. It works, but it's old and doesn't support modern features like shaders.

A Warp3D driver is in the works for Radeon HD 5xxx/6xxx cards. It's meant to be a stop-gap while we wait for Gallium3D. We're all hoping that this will be released ASAP.

Mesa + Gallium3D is the future of 3D that will arrive with AmigaOS 4.2. It will give us full modern OpenGL support, including shaders. Gallium3D is also a prerequisite to using the video decoder that's built into Radeon HD cards.

That was with a Radeon HD 4xxx series card, right? The VRAM=>RAM copy speed seems to vary depending on card series. My Radeon HD 7770 achieves ~800 MiB/s, so I'd expect to get better results than you did (although the codec used will also play a large role, as we don't have a HW encoder).

Agreed, an external recording device is the best option.

LOL. For an extra 10 quid, Trevor promised to write "World.net" on it with a black marker pen.
