How I got VistaPro 3.05 natively working on my Micro A-1

Thanks to M Brantley and Number6! I had to use a little of each of their tricks
to get this to work.

1) Install VistaPRO on your AmigaOne using it's installer
Use the VistaPro 3.05 FPU (in some releases it was called VistaPro3.0.881) executable.
Its file size is 598,404 bytes
2) Rename the VistaPro3.0.fpu or VistaPro3.0.881 file to "VistaPro3.0"
3) Get the tool FileX from OS4.depot. Install it and run it.
4) Use FileX to load the VistaPro3.0 binary.
5) Search for "Workbench" in FileX using the pulldown menu search.
6) Go over to the ascii text area of FileX and put the cursor over the "W" in "Workbench" and type "Fake".
This will replace the word "Workbench" with the word "Fakebench". Use the pulldown menu to save the binary.
7) Check the VistaPro3.0 icon to be sure there are no tooltypes. Set the stack to 50,000.
8) Obtain ModePro from Aminet and install it. ModePro - http://aminet.net/search?query=modepro
9) Be sure to add modepro to your WBStartup from OS4.1 prefs WBStartup.
10) Reboot the amigaone, or just double click modepro to get it running if you wish.
11) Go to Prefs and select ModeProPrefs. Set the pulldown "settings" menu so that
"Enable Screen Promotion" and "Ask About Unknown Screen" are both checked.
12) Save settings in modepro using the save button.
13) In workbench go to prefs/GUI and select the "controls" subsytem item. Be sure you have
"Planar screens on RTG" selected. Save your GUI prefs.
14) Start VistaPro3.0 by double clicking it's icon from workbench.
15) When asked for the first screen to use in modepro, select "Screen name" button, then
when the modepro interface appears, select Promotion: Screenmode and choose a P96-0:Fakenative:
640x480 screenmode. Select USE in modepro.
16) You will now see another requester asking for the screen type for "No Name".
Select the button "Screen Name", and when the modepro interface appears, select Promotion:
Screenmode and choose the P-96-0:FAKENATIVE: 640 x 512 HAM mode.
17) Select SAVE in Modepro.
Hurray! Steps 1 to 17 you will never have to do again! VistaPro should now appear in all its
glory on you AmigaOne screen.

A) You can load DEMs and do everything you like with VistaPro3.0. However, to render a
"ultra" resolution screen, be sure to select ULTRA from the vistapro Iquality menu, then go to the GRMODES
pulldown menu in VistaPro and select "Graphics Panel" and set the following buttons until
they are all active:

"Hires"
"Ham"
"Ham8"
"Interlace"
"PAL"

For overscan width and height click on 640x512.
Be sure the numbers in the checkboxes above for "image size" and "display size" also show 640x512.
B) Click "ok" to exit Graphics Panel and render your image using the RENDER button
You should see a HAM-8 render of your image filling the screen.

Excellent, but I still have the larger HAM8 render screen.

Quote:
1)Click right mouse button on menu item at top "GrModes"
(2)Select "Graphics Panel"
(3)Click and make active each of the following:
"Hires"
"SuperHires"
"Ham"
"Ham8"
"Interlace"
"Super72"
For overscan width and height click on 896x640.
Be sure the numbers in the checkboxes above for "image size" and "display size" also show 896x640.
(4)Click "ok" to exit Graphics Panel

Can your setup handle that?

@scabit

Very good, VistaPro no longer locks me up starting & the screen isn't cut off top or bottom.

In the Display Control Panel, I have HiRes, Ham, Ham-8, Pal, & Interlace selected.

In OverScan, I have width=768, Height=512 selected & get a full screen render image.

If you are setting your Ham8 screen mode to 640x512 using Modepro, aren't you getting the edges of your picture cut off? When I followed your settings for GRModes, using the P96-0:FAKENATIVE HAM8 640x512 interlace screen, my render takes up the full screen, but the edges are cut off because the display mode is literally 640x512. If I set it to 640 x 512 using the GRMode settings I describe, I see the entire screen all at once without any edges cut off and it takes up the full display.
Perhaps you have something set different to get the larger screen, other than the GRModes?

The exact same thing happens here on my X1000.

Glad you and Sundown both have VistaPro working. Do you also have the addon utilities MakePath and TerraForm working?

Happy rendering!

@mbrantly & @scabit

If you have it working and rendering in ham8, then don't mess with it.
I never had to rewrite the executable, but then again I use picasso96prefs and a CRT. One of those things must make the difference on my end.

Since your method seems to work for all models and cards, I suggest using your method. I considered rewriting the executable a last resort, ergo I never brought it up.

@scabit

You can use both of the addon utilities too, and you should be able to define the screen 2 different ways. Both programs use 640x200 mode, so they present a different issue. Heh.

Ask if your interested.

Have just tried the instructions you gave and they worked first time.

Thank you very much

@All

Moving along, I wanted to see if I could get SceneryAnimator working as well on the x1000, & I did.

Re-name SceneryAnimator.881 to any name you want, I chose SceneryAnim.

1. Start ModePro prefs & choose "Program Names", enter "SceneryAnim"
2. Set promotion to "Screenmode" & select the last fake 640 x 480 in the list.
3. Save & done.

I tried the different screenmodes in the selection list, but the rest didn't work or crashed the system starting SA.

Starting SA, it comes up fat & stubby, clicking on the position buttons doesn't show an update, but they do work. Clicking on "Map" & then "Main" shows the update. I set the "Screen" size box (bottom left) to 640 x 480 to play, set it to a higher setting to render IFF24 images. Best render setting to play is 256 Color, gives a full screen that way.

If you happen to find better settings for starting, post them, it is fast.

What do you mean by that?

Also what mode is native for this program on classic? If there are choices, what are they?

Scenery Anim screens

By fat & stubby, it opens on a 640x480 screen, but the GUI is not full screen, its short vertical, but full horizontal.

Gotcha.

Then this is what you would see with the VistaPro utility addons - Makepath and Terraform. They both use 640x200 screen natively, and I suspect that is what Scenery Animator must be using as well.

You can double the vertical resolution of Makepath and Terraform (and I suspect Scenery Animator, but I don't have it to try).
ModePro will do the trick.
You simply choose a 320x256 DPF screenmode and enter for width and height...640 and 200 respectively. Then check the box that says "autoscroll".
The next time you start the program it will be scan doubled, but you'll have to scroll to see the entire horizontal portion.

Note:this will work on your Micros, but not on X1000, as I understand it. Unless you have a 9250, which should scan double.
