@all....

I've been running OS4.1.4 on my Sam460 for quite a while now, WITHOUT any big USB problems. (link to old thread: http://amigaworld.net/modules/newbb/viewtopic.php?mode=viewtopic&topic_id=35226&forum=33&start=0&viewmode=flat&order=0 )

Everytime I boot, I need to unplug the mouse/kb usb spltter, and plug it back in. Sometimes it works right away, sometimes it doesnt and I need to unplug/plug it again.
I can live with that for now, hoping for a USB driver fix.

Still I'm going to look for another solution (maybe a different USB splitter)

For now I'm content :-

No HD problems anymore.
It is very stable ! Only crashes because of third party apps that do not work correctly.
I got the boottime down quite a bit by editing the Kickstart layout and Uboot preferences.
WB is very very responsive,
External USB 2 HD works everytime I connect it and very fast.
Network works fine (SMBFSmounter) with my Popcorn Hour mediabox.
3D works very nice and fast using the new Wazp3D library via compositing

But....

Sounddriver needs updated fast !
Need Overlay or some other way to be able to play movies at a reasonable speed using Mplayer or DVplayer.
Sometimes when booted I get a standard Uboot VGA screenmode, and Radeons screenmodes are not available. Need to reset and everything is fine.
Timberwolf is to slow to be confortable.

To do....

Get CD/DVD writing working again (cant get frying pan to work, have to figure out why)
And just for fun, see if I can get a Bluray drive to work
Get Amicygnix to work. And try out sane for scanning
Get my printer to work
Try to get a complete network running (part of it is a Windows problem )
Add a cooling fan near the CPU, just to be sure (it can get hot in the Netherlands aswel you know )

Cheers,

Martin

@Metalheart

Give me a bell when you want to try and get the networking sorted out...

I might be able to help you with the Windows and AmigaOS4.x settings to have it ALL working

@Metalheart

Nice you got things up and running.

Maybe invest in a new usb kbd and mouse?
Blu ray discs won't pop up on your workbench. Tried it for fun aswell.

If you're only using 1 hd you could always use the pci slot for an soundcard while waiting for the updated sounddriver.

@Metalheart

I m using Logitech MK520 mouse/keyboard combo and its working very well. I downloaded FryingPan and installed it. I clicked on tracks and added a mp3album and then tried to burn it. I only managed to get the first track working. The rest of the mp3s were corrupted. I thought it was going to convert it to audiotracks but it didnt. I also tried to burn an iso without any luck. The faq on FryingPans homepage seem to be outdated.

Yeah, onboard SATA wont do. Drivers not done yet.....
And I've got a DVD and HD on SATA.

Going to try other KB/mouse solutions later on.

Its working but it depends on what you want to do. If you want to backup you system i guess there is no problem. If you want to burn audiotracks then i m not so sure.

@Metalheart

is there any reason why you not using onboard sata port? i know it's beta, but i never had any problems..just asking.. i'm using sata dvd-rom also, but it is connected to the onbord usb.. via sata/pata usb converter. i haven't tested the speed on hardrive or dvd.. but it works very stable.. atleast for now

@noXLar

Well, I thought that the onboard SATA didnt have DMA yet.
And that one could only use the SATA port OR the PCI slot ?

But other then that, I dont know...

From what I understand of the documentation, the onboard SATA is disabled by jumper to use the PCIe-1 slot.

My own personal plan is to get a sam440flex AND a sam460ex boards paired together to get a working pair of machines (rather than a dual-core system)
I will be distributing programs between the two for different tasks quite literally.

Anyway I'll still try to help you as best I can with the networking one step at a time :)

@Metalheart

@noXLar

the rule works both ways but I had no idea which way the default was not actually having had any hands on.

so yes, the other way is equally valid.

The only question is which way you *want* the jumper set for your own setup :)

I've already chosen to use a SATA controller card and will be sending my spare cards to a couple of worthy Amiga supporters.

@Belxjander

off course you are right..but i have heard the pci-e 1 is not supported.. it would be perfect using the pci-e for sata card.. this why you could use more drives and perhaps gain more speed..

I have big problems with the onboard sata port. It doesn't work at all. I'm waiting for a uboot update.

@Metalheart

I have been rather fortunate. The only issue that remains for me is the USB problem. 90% of the time my scroll wheel doesn't work and every now and then the keyboard or mouse are not recognized after boot.

The only other problem is that I get random ip conflict messages from time to time. Not enough to be bothersome. Like most eveything else a reboot solves the problem.

Better sound and video drivers are a must. Hopefully they are forthcoming... soon!

okay..understand.. i wonder why.. i have tested a ssd.. it would't work.. just thinking it was just me.. i have tested other drives.. they work.. i think maybe it is compatibe issue with different drives.. i have aleast ten different hardrive.. i could make a speed/working test

I tried a 2-1/2-in Toshiba HD from a laptop and it doesn't work either. It isn't the drive because it works on a PC. Those are the only drives I have. Actually I have some other drives if I want to sacrifice the data on them. If some drives work and others don't that would be a driver problem.
