@persia

From their website: They only compare 4.0 to old versions of other DTP
(such as Quark 3.3)
http://www.pagestream.org/PageStream/comparison.php

New features in PS 4
http://www.pagestream.org/PageStream/features.php
New features in PS 5 (99$)
http://www.pagestream.org/PageStream/newin50.php
Features of Pro version (+50$)
http://www.pagestream.org/PageStream/newin50pro.php
PS overview
http://www.pagestream.org/PageStream/overview.php

So it seems to my humble Quark experience, Quark has it all by now
that PS has, but it seems it has enough pro features to rare gem in OS4 world.

Pagestream 4.0 is quite old too, so there is no problem in that comparation.
I don't know about any other DTP apps, but I can read this:

Quote:
QuarkXPress 4 (1997) - First version with bezier curves. Notable interface improvements are pop-up tools and tabbed dialog boxes.

I used bezier curves from my first version around 1990, and it has a modern interface from v3.0 (1993).

It would be nice to create an up to date comparison but not here.

That's an eye catching nice looking page design. Congratulations!
Maybe a language selector would be nice. It is a well localized app too.

I volunteer to localize it to my native language if it gets real.

It's a miracle we have a pro-quality DTP package in 2010.

Unfortunately, we don't. PageStream 4 is old and PageStream 5 is nowhere near stable (plus, both are 68k). Updates are infrequent, and the way Deron is trying to fix the problems seems to be pretty much a case of hit-or-miss.

How old is that info?

Isn`t 5.0 68k finalized and bugfixed?

We know PPC is beta and unstable. Has anyone bought 5.0 recently or downloaded updates?

Looks nice man, but is this for PageStream or PageGreen?

I also noticed you go from ok to great! Forcing us to chose if we think it's okay or upgrading our "nice view" to a great one.

BTW, that logo, it looks old, needs updating. Give it a touch of your green thumb.

It's current news. I'm talking about the present state of things regarding PageStream.

Far from it! It barely starts up and does some simple things, then usually hangs.

Quote:

The PPC beta is very old. The work currently focuses on getting the 68k version fixed. No news of the PPC version AFAIK.

@TheDungeonDelver

Yes. Among other things I am creating web sites very quickly in Photoshop as I have big experience in last 5-6 years. I think I have created over 200 web sites...

Everything is vectorized so can be scaled / resized easily, I especially mean to windows [containers] etc.

I am planning to finish my "skin" for a-eon web site and give PSD file for free. To be honest, I am very unhappy to see bad looking web sites appearing in 2010 for my favorite platform - Amiga... First love you never forget :)

@Hypex

I love nature and thats why I choose light-yellow green. Also PageStream's colour was always green [but more CMYK - like green]. Light yellow is brighter style than original. Btw, I did really lots of web sites in my graphics life that consisted any possible color palette :)

Quite sad. Are there any clues when at least 68k version of 5.0 will be finalized?
They charge it 50-100$ and promise 5.0 final to PPC buyers

However, Page Stream globally (taking in account that Windows version is stable and mature) is cheapest DTP platform while seems to be powerful enough

Great talent DJ Nick!
They would really need a refresh!

I personally do write a lot and since there are no modern text processors,
Page Stream would suit my needs (at least until we get OpenOffice)
and yet sometimes I need some DTP, so I am willing to learn.

Sadly, our country has raised custom fees that everything more expensive then
30 euros is taxed + you need someone do make you papers ("spedicija") which is additional 50 euros. Next year I am willing to overcome it all with my new job and salary and get that SAM. You ll be invited!

No idea, sorry. But I don't expect it any time soon.

I don't think the website specifically says "5.0 final" but yes, that's the impression most people get.

The Windows version is fine although there still remain some problems. The handling of styles, for example, seems to be bugged. And no, PgS is certainly not the cheapest DTP platform: Scribus is.

@Trixie

Hope they will bugfix it, now we know they are not the cheapest.
New features in 5.0 look nice, and I hope stable 68k (and Windows for their sales)
will be out soon, while OK we can wait a year more for native PPC version, since it will only boost the speed from emulated to native. Pro features are more important.

Oh I am glad Grasshoppers have taken your design and its gonna become a reality. After the web site, I hope they will bugfix 5.0 for Amiga and grant you two free copies, so I can have one Text editing is a must for me, and unless some good Word like editor comes native, I am willing to use a DTP package for it ))) Beside learning DTP might come handy. And OpenOffice for Kids first public realise is promised to be no faster then July 2011, and that just might be public beta!
