Hi Geri, thanx again for your support... Indeed I do think brother does not provide all sources, libbrcolm and libbrsanedec are probably the most important ones which will reveal/disclose the technical stuff, which is needed for programmers to write their own scanningsoft... therefore libbrcolm and libbrsanedec are only available as ready compiled version for x86. So no chance to recompile for PPC. Well this is just my personal feeling as I am not into Linux at all, would be nice if you could confirm or not. Mr Goldmann from Brother just wrote a second ago:
"Meines Erachtens ist eine Neukompilation der Brother-Sourcen für Ihr System notwendig. Alle Treiber-Quellen wurden zu diesem Zweck zur Verfügung gestellt: http://solutions.brother.com/linux/en_us/download_src.html"
=> "I think a recompile of the brother sources for your system (editor: Debian PPC) is necessary. All (!!!!) driver sources are published on...."
So concluding brother says: ALL DRIVER SOURCES !!!!
What so ever, if you look at Version 0.2.4-0 (the link nutsAboutAmiga posted) there NO Note saying : "NOTE: Library libbrcolm and libbrsanedec in the scanner driver source codes are not available" Maybe they work... donnot know.
By the way, brother seems to look at the problem more closer at the moment, so donnot invest to much time.
I'll keep you updtodate _________________ Geomarketing at www.geobiz.de www.gebietsplanung.net www.geomarketing-consultant.de |

| Right, got an email from brother:
"BrScan2 ist opensource, jedoch sind Teile des Brother Scanner-Moduls nicht offen, somit ist es nicht möglich das komplette Paket für PPC neu zu kompilieren."
=> BrScan2 is opensource, but some parts of the scanner modules are not open, therefore it is not possible to recompile the complete package for PPC
A given link from brother then states --> NOTE: Library libbrcolm and libbrsanedec in the scanner driver source codes are not available (thats what Geri found..., and what I already thought)
Brother Germany then says, that they will try to make libbrcolm and libbrsanedec open source, but cannot promise it. Seems that Brother Germany is not authorised to do that.
So I set this one to [unsolved]
Thanx again for all your help

That's bad! At least they could provide a precompile package with these libraries for PPC. _________________ A1SE: G3@600MHz, 2GB, 1GBit network card A1XE: G4@933MHz, 2GB, refitted AC'97 codec microA1: G3@800MHz, 1GB

Yep, think so, thats what I suggested then to brother. If not, I will return the printer and go for an epson cx21nf... I wrote to a guy from the SANE Project, and he said the epson2 backend will work, and could be recompiled easily. (If not alreday selectable if starting XSane...). For my HP Officejet 7410 it was easy, just started XSane and scanner was found and installed automatically...
Thanx again for help, really appriciate that.. _________________ Geomarketing at www.geobiz.de www.gebietsplanung.net www.geomarketing-consultant.de |

| @Geri Right, got answer from brother:
"...unsere Entwicklungsingenieure haben sind bei der Erstellung der Paket auf Probleme gestoßen. Aus diesem Grund können wir keine Precompile Packages zur Verfügung stellen. "
===> our development engineers encountered problems while trying to build (PPC precomipiled) packages. Therefore we cannot offer precompiled packages (for Debian PPC..).
So, folks everybody who tried to compile here in this thread, donnot worry about that it didn't work out, even the engineers of brother couldn't do it..
NO LINUX PPC SCANDRIVERS FOR BROTHER ALL-IN-ONE !!!
