Well, for me I feel sorry for all of those people that didn't want other operating systems and kept on hoping for better. I've felt that pain for years now.

Now that I can view AmigaOS4 files, launch Amiga OS4 programs, and review / learn the entire install process, including partitioning and formatting a hard disk.

I can truly say, Amiga OS4.x is real man. I don't want to deviate from Amiga ever again. Its my main OS from now on, even if parts of the big picture are missing from time to time.

I have compromised and learnt a valuable lesson, stick to your first love.

@Barana

It's easy enough to find, but I'm not sure why you'd want something that AFAIK has not even managed to boot into Workbench in the real world.

Here's my experience so far:
1) JAN 2008 - I bought a Amiga OS 4 Classic License in + Soon 4.1 will arrive
2) JAN 2008 - My MacMini 1.3Ghz - No Amiga KickStart, we think its 32MB Video RAM
3) JAN 2008 - My MacMini 1.5Ghz - KickStart is good, doesn't want to recognise CD boot
4) ......Lots of waiting

5) SEP 2008 - They've done it, It loads the entire WB
a) I have access to CD-Install
b) I have access to CD-Content
c) I have access to Hard Disk
d) USB Hard Wired Mouse / Keyboard work
e) Speedy Gonzales - Bare Bones Amiga OS4.x is ready to test
f) FDisk, for lack of better words, and Partitioned OK, Format OK.

6) The challenges are a head.
a) HD Direct Boot into installed OS, even though I can access it as a installed volume from the CD boot process.
b) Some more device drivers for USB, Wireless and Standard Ethernet are required
c) Other minor things, and better stability in terms of long term Kernal Use.

Other than that its Better than my attempt to get an AmigaOne Micro from overseas in a working state. To which I can inform you all, eBay / PayPal refund took 3 months to take place. And I had to send the uA1 G3 Back.

But its been a really good experience. As you all saw, I have AROS as another project on my SAM 440EP, and a lot of learning to do about core OS-4 and the DEMO's on programming that come with it.

@Barana

It contains the Mac Mini Kernel, Bootloader and a few other components specific to the Mac Mini version.

The installer would still be part of your OS4 Classic CD or whatever, and you'd still need to get into workbench in order to run an installer and then the script might be wrong for the Mac Mini.

But like I said there is no proof that anyone has ever booted this into workbench in nearly a year since it became available.

IMHO it's just chasing the dragon.

I can confirm... The following cunning plans...

1) USB Drive Testing
2) Secondary Hard Disk Testing / with cross compatible (File Sys)
3) CD-ROM can be ejected - even though its mounted as main OS Kernal
4) Secondary much smaller Boot CD-ROM with KickStart and Startup sequence all re-arranged to swap to HD, until a proper boot loader is ready.
5) Some magic script like in linux, that is used to boot minimum VM and then switches to full blown install OS. Swaping mount points for key things like /proc and /dev

6) PayPal donate button, but that's for the likes of (authorized owners)

USB Memory / Storage disk did not work?
Does this work on Amiga One OS4.x?

@meet.mrnrg

I've used USB sticks, SD card readers and a friends Iomega USB drive here with my XE.

Have you got any video of OS4 booting into Workbench on the Mac Mini, the only video on youtube could easily have been faked.

@ thread

Stage 2 ( Freemans mail order old stock) Has a brand new Mac mini for sale... Up for £135 ( they do accept haggling)

I'm seriously tempted... If only Os4 > worked legally.. out of the box on it I'd buy it.

Trying to make a list of things that don't work:

CPU - OK
RAM TEST = 425MB/s Average
VIDEO - OK
a) Radeon
b) MiniGL crashing / locks system?

SOUND - I have no idea, what driver? what chip set? etc?
HD - OK
a) Install is OK,
b) Copying to it is ok,
c) Booting directly = NOT Working, (What file system is compatible here?)

DVD/CD - OK
a) Insert
b) Eject - only good when you can switch to HD otherwise installer CD is the OS, can crash the system...

ETHERNET - I have no idea, what driver? what chipset? perhaps wireless usb?
WIFI - Built in wifi - I have no idea, what driver? what chipset?
Fixed IP - Don't know? Perhaps NVRAM settings?

USB
a) KVM or Non Apple Keyboards are a pain on the Mac full stop.
b) USB Key

WORKBENCH
a) ResetWB - OK
b) Reboot - Fails
c) Shutdown - How to end all running programs?

Now with the SAM OEM license, would it be possible to release
AmigaOS 4.1 for MacMini?

@Kotler

Why should they? ACube has an OEM licence for their Sam440 Board not for the MacMini port!

@ All

Can we *please* stop even discussing pirated copies of OS4 ? There is no OS4 for MacMini, what was leaked was an early beta of a now defunct project.

If you are in possession of this CD, be aware of the fact that this is a pirated copy and that possession is illegal.

Thanks

@EntilZha

Just for fun...

So stealing is a sin.

Just like the catholic church made drug consumption and not recycling a sin.

In this case, I'm just learning OS4 skills on the MacMini, and trying to asses how much the un-licensed competition is capable of doing.

Well... let me say and reiterate that this is really sad...

The mac mini port was a wonderful idea (and a somewhat easy way) to expand the potential user base of OS4.x to a great and powerful hardware.

For the amigaos lovers and all those that would want to try it...

Another bad decision in the amiga hystory, IMHO.

Buy a SAM440 + OS4.1 when it's available, it the best way to support the project at this time.

@Zorro

this is all about you have a mac mini and a unrealistic dream, but dont want what is available for purchase for aos4.1 now. i can tell you this... you can buy what is available now, if not just shut it. we aint interested in hearing about your moaing. the mac project was just an unfinished project and never meant to be... and no it was not a bad decision in the amiga history, because it was never in amiga history!
