...noticed the size of my original thread was getting rather large! Time to start a new thread! Its much more relaxing to see what programs from AMINET work on OS4 on my AmigaOne than to look at the current Amiga Ordeal!

Working Classic 68k Programs under OS4 Final on an AmigaOne:

OS4 configration - startup sequence has C:SetPatch ADDCHIPRAM 2 QUIET
Kernel layout now includes timerhack.kmod! This seems to help with some older programs....
JIT enabled for all programs tested in this list.
Typically I increase the stack size in the program before running to something like 100000.

Note - full means no DSI errors, no GR, no lockups.

@scabit

Its good seeing a post like this. I don't have anything to run OS4, but here is a response to *bump* it again. :)

It just goes to show (initially) how important 68K emulation is for OS4.

Cheers,

By the way...in testing a lot of audio programs from AMINET lately, I've been surprised at how few of them use the paula audio simulation provided by OS4 final (what used to be Nalle Puh). Am I doing something wrong? I've tried using CIAgent, and the timerhack kmod, and no luck. Oh, these things help some programs run...but still no sound.
Odd since I can get such things as audio.device and speech working just fine.
Anyone have any thoughts on this?

NallePUH is different to the audio.device "emulation" in OS4.

OS4 re-routes audio.device calls to AHI
NallePUH emulates the classic audio hardware (Paula)

Interesting. I was under the mistaken impression that Nalle Puh simply did the same thing that the new OS4 audio.device does, namely re-route the audio to AHI.
Is it possible to run Nalle Puh under OS4 final, or does it conflict with audio.device.... and does it offer any advantages in getting 68k audio software to work?

@scabit

Audio.device is a hi level API, rerouting calls to AHI, should not conflict whit address space used by Paula.

Yes, yes* and yes.

* I think you will get problems unless you set the "music" unit in AHI to use device.audio (aka the option for Unit 0), but I haven't used NallePuh for ages.

Quite the audio fan I see. Back in the day I wrote Amiga audio software. I haven't the slightest idea if these will work on OS4 but feel free to try:

here

There's an audio editor and a modular synth. There's also the code for the synth (under the name synthesis) and code for a third unfinished version of the editor in case anyone's interested.

I will be on a work trip to France for the next couple of weeks, so it'll be about a month before I can get another update to this list.

I hope by then the Amiga turmoil will be over and there will be AmigaOnes (or Mac Minis? or PS3s?) running OS4 at every electronics store in the world....

Good work, Dude! Have you thought of submitting your test results to AW as Scabits Compatibility Guide or some such, under Features/ Useful Stuff, or wherever?
Enjoy France, by the way.

Thanks. I tried posting these programs one at a time in the place for them on intuitionbase.com because I really didn't like having two sets of compatability lists, but unfortunately it is rather painstaking and it seems to take weeks before they show up...also some never show up at all that I submit.
If anyone from Intuitionbase wants to take the info i've posted here and enter it into the intuitionbase.com list of compatible software, you have my permission!

I've recently played Payback on the AmigaOne instead of the A1200 (see sig). The 68k software render edition so to speak. JIT does work, almost. From the given 3 cities, the first is okay since it has no rain/snow effect, this causes lockup (have to cold reboot), sometimes very soon. But you would probably have enough time to quickly exit a city where it rains. :)

Fortunately many of the 3rd party cities do not have snow or rain. So if you have already completed Payback, this might interest you.

@Thematic

The Payback works strange here. It locks up occasionally but what is more important, what key is used to enter the car? It doesn't work according to the manual.

Also, I have not been able to run payback in rotating 3D mode. Just the flat top view mode. Anyone had more luck here?

@AmiKit

The enter key works here.

Rotating mode needs Warp3D, which at least here makes for some weird graphics. Maybe it's playable, but I use software rendering.
