Good day all,

im sure you are all familiar with 'yo' from irc and her restruant in france. as it happens it has 1 acre of land surrounding the property which is owned by her restruant its within driving distance from england and apparently we have quite a few french amiga users, within 6 months we (myself and yo) would like to organize an event on the land, what do you all think?

Sounds good to me. However, in the light of Ryu having to cancel the SCAG event,
tread carefully in terms of cost, etc.
Hope it happens. I would try to support it, and I would have to travel from
Scotland. Good luck with it

Can you tell us where this place is? Just the town is good.

I can imagine if it is not to far away from Belgium that they
would have a few visitors from BAC also.
Especially from the french part of Belgium.

I just wanted to say the same ... you can count more or less 10 Belgian People in I think.
The name "Yo" does ring a bell, but she having a restaurant ? Is she advertising here somewhere ? And 1 acre around the place ... is it an "open-air" happening ?

Well, A decent marquee costs around £10k to hire for THE DAY . I thought of marquee hire myself initially so I enquired about it at a few of the weddings I videoed.

Of course, then you would need a fair few Ulta silent generators for the power etc.

Quite an expensive lark all in all.

It would be a far better idea like our president does for
our amigaclub-meetings, just hire a community place.

Then Yo could arrange a meal for all attenders and
they would gladdly pay for such a meal, /me thinks.

I once organized BoingedInBelgium 2005 ... believe me you do not want to take big risks when you try to organize something big ( well i tried @ least ) for the first time.
Beginning to hire marquee's,getting them set up,generators that have to be constantly looked after when they are on heavy load ... And You still have to have some luck with the weather, marquee or not ...

I do not do something with meals .. it's a just extra work while there are enough restaurants, take-aways and deleviryservices around the corner. Only drinks

I wasn't able to find where Yo's restaurant is located. Where is it ?
There are already some French events organized so you should try to avoid to program this too near of another event (for example there is the most famous french event "l'Alchimie" 6th edition that would take place from 21/10 to 23/10 near Lyon...)
Also if you plan to organize a french event you should advertize a while ago on French site (amigaimpact.org), french MLs (A1France, adevfr, amigaouest...) and also french fanzines/e-zine (AmigaPower, boingattack...).
I really think such an event could really be a success if it can gather England people, Belgium people and French people !

What kind of event would it be? More of a gathering to meet people.. or more towards a "regular" Amiga fair with exhibitors etc, or perhaps something completely different?

Getting exhibitors on the floor when you are not a big name like Pianeta or the one in Gotheburg ( lost the name for the moment ) ... is close to impossible and most of the times they wait for answering with yes or no till last week before the show...

@Aminicle

It's AmiGBG and yes - I'm one of the people that has helped out during those shows. Not so much anymore, since I've got my hands full with other projects. But I do know that exhibitors tends to reply only when there's a week or two left (atleast the big names). It seems like they wait until there's enough of other exhibitors there before they respond ;)

However, even though AmiGBG might be one of the largest shows now, once upon a time, it started out just like this french event did. People asked around, some people invested time and money to make things happen.

And I know I for one would like to visit France.. try out their culinary delights and their wine. Sounds like a good time, and if it's within the next 6 months.. perhaps around March or April 2007.. it shouldn't be too warm, either.

Is this "guru-meditation" someone else, or does this indicate that an agent or

it's a kind of circle, big names wait for other exhibitors and they wait for big names...

Pictures of the event in August 2005 you can find here... it was nothing to big ( what could one expect a year ago ) .http://users.pandora.be/amigaone/amigaclub/meetings.html

It was 48 hours non-stop. Rose was there from Amont informatique, A lot of people from Hyperion, Davy Audioevolution, AmigaOpenOffice and we were sponsored by Cloanto ( big thanks again ! ) .

And now the people that didn't come:
Amiga Inc wouldn't come or give promotional articles, but they did answer my mail for this. BBRV didn't want to come because they had putted to much money and effort in the Amigacause... when I replied that mail with the question " Oh and what about MorphOS?" i asked...they stopped answering.
Also the people @ pagestream were very enthousiast... untill I asked for something to put in the rafle. And ofcours a lot of sick people, people on the yearly holidays and thre list goes on....

So in short thnx for the people that support and for the other... can you at least say "no" instead of nothing or yes when you actually ment no... in the end no organisator does it to gain money ( I actually lost money ) but to support your bussiness.

There were plans for a yearly event but untill nothing new is on the shelf there will be no Boinged In Belgium again like it was in 2005 ( no sleep in 48 hours, financial loss, hair that falls out,... ) . But for the people that want to attend a show in 2007 in the middle of the BENELUX. please mail me and I maybe start thinking about it. ( I remember saying this for 2006 but I got no mails )

But do not let this hold you to organize something but please keep costs down untill you are sure they are justified.
