| I've installed the update to Amiga Forever 2017 and Flowerpot into my Dell PC. I want to install OS 4.1 Classic on it, but I keep getting a message that I need to rescan the system ROMs for expansion boot ROM Cyberstorm PPC (128k). There's nothing to rescan. I have no Cyberstorm boot ROM files. Where do I get these?
I tried loading OS 4.1 onto Amiga Forever without Flowerpot, and it seemed to go OK until reboot when OS 4.1 won't boot from the hard drive and insists I insert the CD. It boots from the CD then returns me to the installer to do another install, which takes over an hour. I'm caught in a loop. |

I believe the PPC rom should be on the Amiga forever CD. I had to find mine by google as I only have amiga forever 2012. If it keeps trying to boot of CD make sure you don't have os4.1 cd in the cd drive and also that no ISO of os4.1 is specified in Winuae config.

Also do you have the ISO from Hyperion website? I got my files from Amiga Forever 7. _________________ John 3:16 |

After you buy it, you must register it and then download the ISO as per the Flower Pot instructions. Also see: http://amigax1000.blogspot.com/ for help also. _________________ John 3:16 |

Yes, the rom file does come with the physical package if you order it that way. I got mine downloaded from Cloanto so the rom files get dropped into the mysterious well of Windows 10! (You know it's on the C drive somewhere in "Program Files".) Once I found it I was able to skip Flowerpot and just install OS 4.1 onto Amiga Forever 2017 following Mike's step by step instructions in a YouTube video. I now have Amiga OS 4.1 running on my Dell Optiplex! Time for some more new games, and thanks for the helpful advice. |

I bought Amiga Forever 2017 and all the files are on the disc, but mine was downloaded from Cloanto so it took a while to find where things were in Windows 10 which was forced on my PC by Microsoft while I was asleep (That's why we all love 'em). With AF 2017 you don't need Flowerpot; just install OS 4.1 through AF 2017. Got mine working. many thanks. |

Might have to invest in Amiga forever 2017 soon to try . Wonder if runinuae works using that instead of flowerpot. Runinuae from extras wont install just gurus half way through :(

First I installed Amiga Forever 2017. (has the PPC files) The virtual hard drive set up has been upped to 750 Mb, but Bill (not Mike) said in his YouTube video to go to 1000. I went 999. Make a copy of this version and rename and save it. Krysztof Radzikowski's Book on emulation shows the entire process in an easier to follow mode. The video under "Guru Meditation" goes a little too fast for me. I ordered the book. and I subscribed to "Guru Meditation". |

So had a go at planting the FlowerPot tonight. Seriously I don't know anyone got it to work. It's too hard to install! Followed the guide and put the files in. But it just boots to a shell and complains Assign isn't executable. Last edited by Hypex on 29-Mar-2024 at 03:01 PM.

Thanks for all the links. Read them all and watched the install video. But nope, it doesn't work for me.
The video is misleading. He launched it from the installer and a file window opens. Here the app loads up. So the video looks edited. There's no easy button to open the files up from my installer.
In any case I copied all files in I can see listed. PPC ROM is 128KB. All I get is UAE booting off the OS4 CD and unable to run PPC binaries. I loaded up a PPC test disk and it passed the PPC test. So PPC is working. But OS4 is not.
Sorry but I think you guys need to make a deal with Cloanto. Clearly this depends on Amiga Forever but includes the "poor mans" version with WinUAE. The way it is now is just too complicated, needing to buy Pot, AF and then OS4 and manually copy files around. OS4 is already too complicated needing all this extra stuff on real machines. A full Pot package with all licensed roms included, guaranteed to work out of the box, that simply needs to import the CD image from the app would be beneficial.

I long thought and wish there was a dedicated AmigaOS4 emu set up all ready and easy for end users. As it is a bit of mess at the momet. Plus i think it woud sell well. _________________ AmigaNG, YouTube, LeaveReality Studio |

FlowerPot does go some way to offer an easy AmigaOS4 installation method. But as a paid product it really needs to work easily and be fail safe. A free offering doesn't need to meet high standards.
There is talk of using Qemu to emulate XE or Sam. While the end experience is way better there is no easy solution for this. Expecting the user to compile it himself is not a working solution to an easy OS4 installer.
I suggested AmiKit make a deal with Cloanto for the required ROMs. How ever I must take this back. It's not good enough. I managed to get FlowerPot working by using another ISO image downloaded from Hyperion site. So it depends on a particular ISO. For a full proof installer it needs this ISO as well as ROMs so all components need to be present. I don't know what was wrong with the image I was using which mounted fine on Windows. But it looks like the supported image works stand alone with a full booter for CyberSCSI CDFS. When it once needed a boot floppy. |
