@GrumpyOldMan

I should imagine so, it'll be the start of a PVR for the amiga no?

Sort of, yes. Having used VHI Studio on A1200 (with TV card connected to Mediator) I would say it does not qualify as a PVR (Personal Video Recorder?) software - it captures video in raw (YUV) format which you then can edit and save as a MPEG. But the lenght of the capture is severely limited by the amount of RAM - VHI Studio uses it to temporarily store the raw video. So you can create short MPEG clips with it, but that's pretty much about it.

@GrumpyOldMan

so 24 bits per pixel ?
for PAL assume 768x576 (hi res laced, full PAL frame)
gives 1296KB per interlaced frame - in PAL this is 25 per second (50 Hz for each
half of the interlace pair)
which is approx. 31.6MB per second RAW - not including audio
(which would probably make up the value to 32MB per sec. for a really good stereo sample)

so: 500MB* / 32 MB is roughly 15 seconds !!

can one not script VHI studio to record 10-15 second lumps to Hard disk, then get another process to encode to MPEG ?

or 'q'PAL: 384x288, sampling rate 25Hz gives 7.9MB/s - 60 seconds in RAM*.

assuming one can allocate 500MB of RAM ! This of course wont be necessary - but it would depend on how quickly one can dump large chunks to disk...(4GB equates to about 2 minutes at high res PAL, or 8.5 mins in 'q'PAL.)

is there any way to tell the 848/878 to churn out 384x288 frames ?
how much effort (for a G3) is it to convert raw to MPEG ?

BTW just saw your new avatar first time...it is taken with that camera? You look like you are in great pain

@Agafaster

And with the upcoming Virtual memory, this shouldnt be to much of a problem should it?

what Web-cam do you use ? will VHI cope with any USB one for instance ?

Was it, that OS4 total memory space was ~4Gig total (32bit address space), RAM and virtual memory together ?? Is it possible to store fields/frames directly to hard drive ?? Most hd's can reach that ~33 MB/s or more...

@thread

Did any BT878 users here get AmiTV running on their A1's? I failed to get any picture at all.. except for that blue screen.. and then it hangs pretty quickly..

@jahc

as mentioned earlier in this thread use the up - down arrows to change input (Tuner, FBAS,..)
and the left - right arrows to search channel with the tuner (may work).

@Spiranto

nice prog, tested it out and it generally works on my uAOne with Flyvideo2 card. The
Tuner seems to work to, but theres no analog terrestrial TV bradcasting since
last year in north germany, now just digital terestric TV, yeah). Thats why I just need the
possibility to display a FBAS video signal, in fullscreen. No audio. Sadly for
now it seems not to be possible to get a fullscreen display. Furthermore it seems
the right half of the generated picture is missing (?). The pic is too dark and
I can see single lines. Any suggestions ?

I'm using Hauppauge WinTV Go BT878 card.
PAL system as used in Luxembourg

I see a picture which is slightly shifted to the right. After some time there are isolated stripes or pixels but it's OK.

Is there any possibility to fine tune the image or move the image?

I have connected the WINTV out to my Soundlive In connector. But I don't hear any sound.

Any advice?

Edit: there is sound now after I installed Amitv fo 29 January 2005. Before I used version 27.
Right now I'm viewing some interesting docu about snakes on TerraNova Channel.

@Beeblebrox

Image is dark but I'm using a TFT screen so that could be a problem too.

Well, at least people are able to use it mostly without crashing. :)

I'm currently working on getting it into a proper app... what you're using at the moment is only a test harness. I could release a version now with audio but because of the way TV cards work the audio selection would probably only work on cards the same as mine.

Once I get it into library form I can worry about the brightness/positioning etc. It's just the crashing which I don't know if I can do anything about (though I have some ideas for workarounds....)

Not too much I suspect - my p200 encodes vcd quality video at 3x realtime, and a g3 800 is loads faster . . . Given a well written encoder I`m sure realtime mpeg capture is theoretically possible.
I`m interested in this thread because I want to build a stb type thingy out of a micro, I`ll need something that displays the video input fullscreen on bootup, as a pass through for the tv.
