@Spirantho

Great to hear that your prog matures.

Today I bought this card on ebay for 17EUR
Hauppauge WinTV Go TV-card Model 603

I hope it works with your prog?

Can anyone confirm this? THX.

@mbilla

Try it and see! :)

Sounds very similar to what I'm using though, so you should be ok! I'm using a WinTV Go as my Bt878-based card for testing.

If only I could get it to work without crashing... it's really infuriating.. and the more it crashes the less I think that there's anything I can do about it.

I appears to be the kernel trapping the interrupt and doing something with it before it passes it on to my program, it's the only thing I can think of. How the heck I can work around that I don't know....

I'm after a TV card - which one works the best with your software ?
and where did you find notes on how to access the PCI bus ? in the SDK ?
I'm interested in that.

keep up the good work !

@Agafaster

I'm writing it around a WinTV card (the original one - Bt848 based from about 1996) and a WinTV Go! card from about 1998 (Bt878). The Bt878 seems to be a little more versatile and crashes less with my program, but OTOH the 848 has much better picture quality on my cards. I'm currently developing the Bt848 primarily as that's the one with the PAL tuner. The Bt878 is supported mostly too though, but it's a little more complicated (but not much).

The PCI stuff is all in the SDK - I can send you my source if you like, just yell!

Don't give up. I'm working on seemingly unfixable bugs at the moment too, but I've managed to solve some of them.

Oh, I shan't give up. But I shan't be able to release a proper program until it's fixed, and that may take ages.

I'm hoping that the problems will go away when the final OS4 comes out, and even if they don't, maybe Rogue or someone will be able to help.

After all, eventually it would be nice if my Bt848.library was shipped with AmigaOS itself, along with a TV program. Then they'd have to help with my problems. I suspect a weird crash with a TV card is not top of their priorities right now though. :)

For anyone interested:

A minor breakthrough last night - I got a TV signal! Not a composite video signal, you understand, a genuine RF UHF tunable signal. S4C for anyone interested.... typical that the first time I get it to tune into a TV program and it's all in a foreign language (I don't speak Welsh yet).

Puzzle from last night: Very weak signal, and why does it only tune in when I go up in small steps?

Possible Solution: I think I know why - I was using the wrong band (Mid band instead of High band) - in other words the S4C I was getting was an echo of the version at the proper frequency. Can't fix it till later though - not at my A1 now... Argh! The suspense! Can I get a useable tuner working tonight? Watch this space. :)

OK, it's that time for y'all to try my program again. :)

The latest version:
www.retroreview.com/iang/AmiTV_20050127.lha

You now have a few more controls and command line arguments.
If you specify a number on the command line it will take that as the channel number!
So for instance, if you're in Wales like I am, and you want to watch S4C, you
will type:
AmiTV 21
as S4C can be found on that channel. Round here 21 is S4C, 24 is ITV1, 27 is BBC2 and 31 is BBC1 I think.

You can also use the up and down arrows as before to go between inputs (composite/s-video etc),
but you can use the left and right arrow keys to switch between channels. So to go from S4C (21) to ITV1 (24)
I'd press Right three times. However, because there's still this wretched crash problem, it's risky! You're
better off leaving the program by clicking anywhere in the window, and then restarting it. However, it's useful
for channel hunting!
You can also use the + and - keys on the keypad for fine-tuning!

Remember, this will only work at the moment on a PAL signal! I haven't tested this much on the
Bt878 card I have because it's got an NTSC tuner hence I need reports please!

Thanks again to all those helping test it!

I do get a display from my camcorder, unsteady, like two images overlayed each other and some horizontal lines. It appears the vertical blanking interval bar shows up about 1/4 up from the bottom of the display.

On the tv tuner side I do manage to get one snowy unstable display of a local UHF channel at freq. 591 which displays for about 3-6 seconds before the system locks up. Keep up the good work.

Kind regards

@Spirantho

its great you're making progress!

.. I havent been able to get the last three versions of your program to run on my 878 card though. It just displays a blue screen in the window (With slight glitches here and there, so I'm sure its displaying the "no signal" picture), then crashes after around 10 seconds.. if I move the mouse around inside that window it seems to crash it faster.. using up/down cursor to change between inputs didnt work, when I hooked up my a600 up to it ... and the tuner doesnt seem to tune anything in, I see shell output when I hit the left/right cursor keys, but I still see no picture... maybe stability issues will be resolved when overlay is here?

have I told anything new or ..? I appreciate your work on this program. this is one gap in a1 software that will be shortly plugged.. its good!

should I paste you the shell output? will have to pipe it to hd because of the crashing.. hehe :)

Hmm... let's see... one person from Oz, one from NZ, and one from the US. Any Europeans or Brits please? :)

Oh, I forgot to mention: only channels 21-60 work! I'll stuff in support for the VHF channels tonight, but you see I can't test them... that's where you guys come in. :)

@Poweramiga2002:

What channel did you tune to? Do you have anything in the range 21-60 over there? I think they're used by cable or something over there aren't they?
Thanks for your output though.. it tells me that the PixelView Pro card doesn't have an EEPROM on it! I'll have to make your card hard-coded... great!

@Janimator:
It won't work on an NTSC signal yet, the timing's all wrong. But your output is still handy, as I know you have an EEPROM on your card. Can you tell me what kind of card it is please?

@Jahc:
What channel were you trying and what channel was your A600 set to? In the UK they're set to 36, so I'd type
AmiTV 36
to tune into it (after making sure that the A600 was connected via the TV modulator on it of course. :) )
What kind of Tv card is it? An output log would be useful but don't invalidate your HD on my behalf! :)

My card BT878 is on the way. I will probably have it by mid next week.

I live in Luxembourg (Europe), so I hope I can contribute to beta test your prog.

TV is PAL system here.

Hey, it works great here! It doesn't even seem to crash although I haven't hammered it that much.

I got a great picture of ITV1 on channel 44 here and BBC1 on 47 I think. I quickly plugged some headphones into the audio-out socket on the back of the card but there was no sound. Should there be?

Very promising and keep up the excellent work!

BTW I am using a PixelView PlayTV pro PV-Bt878P+ pci card in a Amiga1XE

Sound will hopefully come tonight... I think I just need to enable a flag on the input multiplexer (which takes less time to code than it does to describe!).
I think I may also have cracked the riddle of why NTSC doesn't work... I hope so!

Has anyone tried this on a MicroA1 yet, BTW?
