Just uploaded a screenshot to amigaos.dk... silly thing doubleposted.

[Edited URL as it changed]

However, if anyone wants to test my little program just drop me a line (iang_at amiganet _dot org but without any underline characters!)

Great, thanks....

I'd say, upload it to OS4DEPOT :)

@lizardrock

Heh - not yet.

At the moment, as the people who've tried it will verify - it's far from releasable.

For starters, I've now noticed that most Amiga owners have Bt878 not Bt848. :)
Hence I don't know if anyone who's asked for it has the right hardware!

There's lots of things I want to sort out before I upload it anywhere, but looking on
the bright side - a minute ago I was watching Tom and Jerry on my CED player - very cool to see on the Workbench screen!!

So for now just private testing requests.. but by all means ask away. :)

Great! Lack of TV card support for OS4 has been bugging me, have an A1200 at minute with Mediator and have got very used to my TV card, a bt878 of course

Great work . Pity I have a bt878 based card :D. Tuner cards are going fairly cheap now days, so I might pick up a bt848 based card.

I've got a Bt878 based video capture card (no tv tuner)... it would be nice to use it on my AmigaOne once I get it.

@Spirantho
I think I have a TV card with an 848 chipset, if so I would certainly like to give it a go. I will try and find the card later tonight and confirm

@jtubbs:

I just replied to your request before I read that. Oh well, try it and see what happens. :)

@zerec:

email sent... (except I forgot the program! Hang on...) 2 emails sent. :)

@AmigaOneProductions

Excellent - let me know if it really is.

I think the next thing I shall work on is a Bt878 driver. :) They should be pretty similar, so I'll have to borrow the 878 card from one of my PCs (luckily I have 3 WinTV cards!)

Oh, I made progress again last night - I now have Tom & Jerry in full motion without motion blurring from interlacing! May not sound like much but remember - I don't have native P96 yet which means no Overlay code! Of course it eats up CPU time like nobody's business (BltBitMapRastPort being used on entire framebuffers every tick!)

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Little update: I just looked at the Bt878 datasheet and it seems like it should be compatible... so maybe users of them could test it anyway.

It may be worth pointing out my interrupt settings. I have (from memory):
INTA IRQ 11 (level)
INTB IRQ 12 (level)
INTC IRQ 13 level)

I think it may be important they're set to level, not edge... but I'm not sure.

@Spirantho

Oh well, seems I also have an 878 based card, I think with the numbers being similar, lots of us have got our hopes up.

If you do write a driver for a BT878, which is looking to be a very popular chip, you will have plenty of testers / users

Tried running the program tonight. It actually kinda sorta worked...got down to the message "Created 10 instructions", then the whole OS locks up tight.

Following are some of the pertinant messages:
Found winTV card 0x109e 0x878!
Device capabilities 3
Device initialized OK!
.
.
.
.
.
Program being created at 0x0213d900
Created 10 instructions

As soon as you compile a 878 version, however rough, I'll be glad to help test.

@jtubbs

Ah yes, I plugged in my Bt878 card last night and to my relief it did exactly what some of you testers reported - which is great, as it means I can fix it. :) The key is in the "Width: 0 Height: 0" line of the debug output, which means that it's not reading the card's RAM correctly.
Hopefully once I can fix this, the fact that the Bt878 is very similar will mean it'll start working!

I'm also working on getting the tuner bit working... so I hope to have a working Bt878 driver with tuner support - at least on some cards - by the weekend. Kind of funny that I seem to be the only person in the AmigaWorld to actually have a Bt848, though!

@poweramiga2002

I may well email people with the 878 version when it's done...
Alternatively, given the amount of people who've voulunteered (who, incidentally, all seem to have the 878, not the 848!), I might just stick it up for download somewhere instead, and post here when the next version is ready.

I've found a little memory address on the 878 which enabled "VIA/SIS PCI compatibility" which doesn't exist on the 848... maybe that will help (hope so!) - if it does I'll upload a version somewhere tonight.

I also think I know what may be wrong with my code for detecting tuners I whipped up yesterday... may be able to get that working tonight too.

Is OS4Depot.net a good place to upload pre-pre-pre-alpha versions like this?
