Try not to let it get to you. OS4 is a real product. The X1000 is a real product. They're both selling and hopefully they will continue to do so, and OS4 will only get better and better.

4 more days before I get home...

@WolfToTheMoon

If you look at original roadmap, you see that PPC native OS was planned until AmigaOS4.2, back then the plan was where different, for example it was not a native OS that was plan but a hosted OS whit some improvements.

What we have now on that old list:

* CAMD.
* AHI
* AmiRTG = Picasso96
* AmiNetStack = RoadShow
* AmiFFS2 = FFS/07 Long Filenames, on filesystem front we have a lot more like XFS and SFS2.
* Virtual Memory.
* PPC 68K emulator = Petunia
* Sheep = now replaced by Python
* USB = EHCI,OHCI support.
* Native PowerPC OS.
* Simple memory protection.

What we do not have and is not planned.

* Java (interesting Java is getting less popular due security holes, there are some work on a Java port but its not part of the OS)
* AmigaDE (dead did not catch on and is now obsolete)
* Ami2D/Ami3D for AmigaDE (now obsolete).

What is planed and not on that list:

* Mesa / Golum3D
* SMP
* improved Memory protection
* New Shell
* Talks about a cops printing system port.
* Talks on improving workbench.
* New Task Scheduling.
* Support for more drivers.

What we have that is not on that list

* Amiga Input
* Ringio
* compositing
* Shared objects
* Slab allocator
* Support for PCI/PCI-e cards.

@resle

actually we can do is look at other operating systems, and look at what they have, that we do not, and think about what is useful to have.

@NutsAboutAmiga

I was just joking, it was just a play on words on the quote from Back to the future.

Remember when quoting was fun?

(that's a play on words too - just in case)

Can't get must truer than this, I'm almost proud of you Darrin

Please try and use the reference AOS4.x though when referring to the Amiga Operating System though, cheers.

@thread

We know rougly what is planned for AOS4.2.
But I would like to know more how it is all progressing.
More openness, to kill rumors etc.

If nothing else is going to be given, how about updated animation what goes on in AOS4 source repository (like the 25years of development video).

Also... yesterday I was thinking about reward bounties to AOS4 developers.
Some extra $$$ bonus to help to keep the R&D going, even if we anyway need to pay reasonable amount to get 4.2 on our devices.
example: Multicore support - reward part1 paid when AOS4 is demoed to run Blender when using both cores of PA6T. Part2 paid when 4.2+SMP is out.
Similarly for Gallium3D, Mesa, 2GB+ support, AOS4 on netbook...
POWER7 support - part1 paid when AOS4(multicore) demoed on POWER7 HW etc... (AOS4 on POWER would be good PR)
PPCx CPU support - Money paid when AOS4 demoed to work on a previously not supported development board (APM & Freescale chips)(it would encourage the development of new HW for AOS4).

The OP poster asked for a Roadmap of AOS4.2, I presented the only existing Roadmap for AOS4.2. No one else presented a newer roadmap or posted a link.

I did not discuss the content of the roadmap, so if people attack me because of "Trolling", I was not the person who wrote this roadmap, maybe you shoul adress your comments to them.

BTW.:
It is interesting how foul language is accepted here, some people calls the moderation "biased" I think they are right.

@NutsAboutAmiga, sundown, ssolie

thanks for your posts. Hope that Hyperion and all other OS4 developers continue there good job and we will have some further releases. Lets see what comes before christmas or in 2013. I personally would like some updated intuition, I mean navigating in workbench windows (forward, backward, folder up) natively is something I miss more than SMP or 3D stuff.

@ssolie
As long as nobody hires a babysitter and buys an airplane ticket for me there is no chance to visit amiwest ;)

What foul language? I've just pointed out that a good part of that is already implemented. And i haven't called anyone "troll"...

Would you care to point out this foul language that was accepted?

Off topic but relevant to the thread...

When did "Seer" become a mod...
