A couple of nights back I was using picshow to work through more than a hundred images taken in the antarctic over the last two months. Among them were a number of video clips which would have been nice to play in sequence. It would be nice if picshow could invoke mplayer as required, then pass on.

It's a SoundBlaster Live! 5.1 Digital, so I guess it's one of the 'bad' ones.

I am fortunate enough to have the built-in sound chip in my A1. I suppose there are no issues with using the built-in sound? Does audio in work with the onboard chip?

Would I need to change my Linux settings?

I have a Soundblaster live in my A1, and have recently transfered to onboard sound. I was told that the SBLive can cause lock-ups on OS4, and I also want to put a scsi card in, to use my scsi scanner. I haven't yet taken it out, as I am waiting for delivery of the scsi card. When I do I'll post the connections for the audio in (from the cd-rom)
Have a look at THIS for more details. Unfortuntley I don't know about the linux side.

Ok, waking up this thread again as I got another complete and annoying lockup trying to view a not that large image in a directory containing 2 images and a lot of mp3s.

Could it be that the machine locks up when a too large chunk of data is transfered to the Radeon in one go? Some bus arbitration causing a deadlock because of incompatibilities between Radeon and SB Audigy? As with 3D.

Perhaps I should mention that I also get lockups when transfering a lot of stuff over USB. Related? SB problem?

Fortunately I was given an AC97 chip Unfortunately it is so tiny that I sincerely doubt I am able to solder it by hand I really think I need a new backup Amiga (SAM?) before I will attempt to solder that thing.

@Deniil715

My system still has the occasional lockup but things have been bad for some time. Also the soundcard was only managing on one channel. I reseated the sound card and found many of my lockups vanished. I also bumped up the iBrowse cache. I do not know if this is related but when downloading a podcast three times iBrowse has stumbled when concluding the download leaving me with an invalidated work partition each time, or is the stumble somehow related to Amipodder?

My advice: don't be a fool and take chip and motherboaerd to a professional soldering service, surface soldering in so tiny chips without proper instruments is suicidal.
