So, we have: Amigans for OS4, MorphZone for MorphOS, Amiga.org for Classics and Amigaworld.net for whole Amiga world in general.
Is this so bad?
|
It makes sense:
aros.org is AROS aros-exec.org is AROS
morphzone.org is MorphOS morphos-news.de is MorphOS
amiga.org is Amiga amiga-news.de is Amiga amigans.net is AmigaOS4
Hmm...

Hmmm... I guess a ban would be in order now.

According to their banner, it's about Classic Amiga, Next-Gen Amiga and emulation of Amigas, not AmigaOS4-only, although it focuses more on the latest version AmigaOS. |

I found that very odd, considering that it was one of the admins that posted it as a news article on amiga.org ;) Also it was very odd that i saw a thread on amigans.net asking for people to spread the info.. It makes absolutely no sense! |

You talk nice things about "freedom of speech" etc and try to use this against the new portal. Well, here's a news flash for you - the same "freedom of speech" allows the people behind the new portal to choose the way they run their portal. If you cannot accept the way it is done in Amigans.net, there are plenty of other fine Amiga portals for you to express your opinions. |
True, one thing that puzzles me though.
Amiga(OS) is a commercial OS. As such, it wants to attract new users. Is a forum/website where people are stopped at the door a good way to promote a commercial OS?

I think he just doesn't want people going around saying "our site is better than yours", stuff like that. And where he's said spread the word, he just means to your friends, as in people who are going to be interested in the site. |

And sooner or later OS4 users are minority because site is crowded by classic/emu users.

| Anyone else think it's a bit cheeky for the new site to use a Boing Ball icon that's remarkably similar (albeit not exactly identical) to AW.net's? Many AmigaOS4 users are emu users too and classic Amiga OS users, we have experience whit old Amiga hardware too, but lets not hope that becomes the main focus of site designed to promote OS4.

Sorry, you lost me here. I had no problems in registering to Amigans.net, and I doubt any newcomer has either.
I don't think forums are a good way to promote a commercial OS - but they are good in linking the OS team and developers to the current and potential future customers. Now which site is doing a better job in this - one which creates a atmosphere where both sides mentioned above feel safe to interract with each other, or the one which allows personal attacks, FUD and general mud slingering?
Please note this is a general question, I am not pointing finger to any particular direction (if you feel I am, I assure it is completely unintentional)._________________ "Those are my principles, and if you don't like them... well, I have others." (Groucho Marx) |

Time will tell. If OS4 does not get released soon with available hardware, it doesn't matter anyway, there won't be much for OS4 users to talk about on that forum. If it does, then most likely OS4 and related hardware/software will be the major topic of discussion there. |

Well he actually is referring to the "favicon" used by the browsers to denote which site you are looking at. While EAB has a boing ball, it is blue, and AI's has text on it. A.O uses a square shape, but Amigans is identical to that used by this site.
In Tabbed browsing modes, this could be more confusing and makes identifying the sites tabs more awkward.
[edit] It is a shade lighter, but not so obvious unless you have tabs for both open and flick between them.Last edited by _Steve_ on 06-Dec-2006 at 10:15 PM.

Aha, fair enough. Well it is different as you say, much lighter. Boondocks and Lemon Amiga also use very similar icons. I doubt theres any intentions behind it. |
